El cartero
Un holocausto atómico ha puesto la civilización al borde del abismo y tan sólo sobreviven poblaciones aisladas sin ninguna conexión ni gobierno central. En ese contexto, Gondon Krantz, un vagabundo a quien los bandidos han despojado de todas sus pertenencias, encuentra el cadáver de un cartero y se viste con su uniforme para resguardarse del frío. Al llegar al primer pueblo, y ante la expectativa que despierta su presencia como funcionario, Gordon desarrolla la teoría de unos Estados Unidos Restaurados. Todos creen entonces que la existencia de un servicio de correos centralizado conllevará el resurgimiento de la organización social. Gordon, convertido muy a su pesar en el emblema de esa nueva era, deberá luchar para transformar en verdad la más egoísta de las mentiras.
