Un guijarro en el cielo
Despues de que un experimento sale mal, Joseph Schwartz, un hombre normal y corriente de principios del siglo XXI es trasladado 10.000 años en el futuro hasta un Imperio galáctico.Al llegar descubre que la Tierra se ha convertido en una especie de "ghetto", con grandes zonas radioactivas (este tema sería desarrollado por Asimov en la novela: Robots e Imperio) y una poblacion considerada por los demas habitantes del Imperio Galactico como marginal, hostil e incomprensible. Debido a la falta de recursos producida por la radiactividad los terrestres aceptan con naturalidad la eutanasia de los mayores de 60 años y tienen un draconiano sistema de control de natalidad. Este es un enorme problema para Schwartz, quien tiene 62 años.Sin saber el idioma ni nada de la extraña cultura futura, aturdido y considerado poco mas que un retrasado, es inscrito "voluntariamente" en un experimento del mejor cientifico terrestre. El experimento sale mejor de lo esperado y aumenta la inteligencia de nuestro héroe y otorgándole además rudimentarios poderes telepáticos.Mientras tanto, un arqueólogo imperial de visita en la Tierra se enamora de la hija del cientifico y descubre un complot para destruir el imperio, que al principio no cree.El titulo hace referencia a la tierra, que en el Imperio Galactico no es mas que Un Guijarro en el cielo.
